About Toby Ouvry
Toby is a Transpersonal and Meditation teacher and coach and the Creative Director of Platinum Light Pte Ltd in Singapore. He has fourteen years of experience in the field of spirituality and meditation and a decade of experience in actively mentoring people in the field of consciousness development.
Toby's interest in the spiritual and transpersonal fields of human experience began as an active pursuit about the age of thirteen, when he heard a translation of the ''Tibetan Book of the Dead'' being read on the radio by John Cleese (of Monty Python fame) whilst sitting in the kitchen with his mother. Seeing the keen interest that her son showed in the discourse, she subsequently bought Toby a copy of the book, and there began an odyssey for Toby that culminated in him becoming heavily involved in Tibetan Buddhism after leaving University (graduating with a Fine Arts and Sculpture degree). After a period of preparation he eventually became ordained as a Buddhist Monk for five years. During this time he was actively involved in two meditation centres in the UK. Firstly the Compassion Buddhist Meditation Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne (where he studied, taught meditation and was the Director) and, subsequently Vajrapani BMC in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, where he was the resident teacher for two years.
He came to Singapore in 2001, as a Buddhist Monk, with the remit (from his then Spiritual Teacher) to start a meditation centre there. From 2001 to the the beginning of 2003 he was actively involved in the founding and establishing of Odiyana Buddhist Meditation Society and he was the resident teacher for that period.
At the beginning of 2003 Toby felt he had reached a threshold in his inner development. In order to actively move on to the next stage of his path, he left his life as a Buddhist Monk, and moved back into secular life, basing himself in Singapore. He established his own business, Ninth Wave a personal development consultancy, and became very involved in the study, mentoring and teaching of spiritual/transpersonal psychology, drawing particular inspiration from the eclectic work of Dr Joshua David Stone and the I AM University (of which he was a branch leader for three years, and is now an senior study group facilitator).
Toby now lives in Singapore with his wife Shamala (with whom he runs Platinum Light), and three year old daughter who simply runs him around in circles.
